A Life
This past Sunday, the NY Times magazine chronicled Rob Corddry, his life, his house, his hobbies. They first of course approached me. I insisted the article be a multimedia collage of my life. The New York Times however found it difficult to acquire many of the licenses for songs and movies I requested be part of the video, they went with plan B, Rob. Here's what might have been (minus all the songs and video):

Morning routine: I wake up at 7 am. Set my alarm for 7.15. Finally get up, check email, shave, dump, shower, dress, take medication. I usually leave my apartment around 7.55. I used to wake up right at 7 but i figured out that I can still make it to work at 8.30 even if i sleep till 7.15. Sometimes I have to jog to the subway. There's a man on the corner of 124th and Madison that I say hi to and shakes hands with every morning. Today is his birthday, he's 44. I paused a moment longer than usual and made sure to say happy birthday. On monday, tuesday, and friday i'll read my book on the train. Wednesday I'll pick up the Village Voice and Thursday I read amNY and rip out the dinning section. Monday, Wednesday and Friday i'll get fruit and apple cider at the Union Square farmers market. Wednesdays I pick up a bottle of coffee flavored milk from the Ronnybrook farm stand. Tuesday and Thursday I buy a banana from the fruit stand on 17th and Union Sq West and Coffee from a man up the block. I get to work at 8.32.
His hangout: Restaurants and movie theaters.
How he resembles his sitcom character: We both like ginger ale, spicy tomato juice and have a constant fear of abandonment.
His double consonants: I guess you're talking about my middle name 'Asher.' Sh.
Favorite old sitcom role: Seinfeld in 'The Seinfeld Chronicles.' Does Seinfeld count as old? Anyway, he's got the life.
Prized possession: A wooden sign that says 'Avi's Room.' When I was little I had it in my room.
What he drives: No car. only public transport.
Best useless object: A bowling pin from Midway Lanes. The year was 1993, it was my birthday.
Favorite "Daily Show" memento: 12 used condoms from a late night orgy Jon Stewart had at his house in honor of the correspondents.
Favorite real-news reporter: Walter Cronkite. Although I've never actually seen him deliver the news. Let's go with Jim Lehrer instead.
Possessions that remind him of himself: A wax sculpture of me I keep under my bed. Or maybe the Seinfeld scripts for the first and second seasons.
His other job: Designing buildings
Always with him: A wrist watch. I've owned four my entire life. In fourth grade I had a Casio calculator watch. In sixth grade I upgraded to a Casio that displayed monthly average temperatures from around the world. High school I sported the Eddie Bauer edition with a bright yellow face and presently I have a Timex IronMan given to me by my bro.
Best recent gift: Probably the Timex IronMan. Thanks Lev.
Best family memento: Our kitchen table, our baby grand piano from my dads childhood home.
Evening routine: Get out of work around 5:30. Unless I'm meeting someone I exit my building and walk slowly down the block trying to think of where I can get dinner. As many people know, I've never prepared a meal for myself in NYC. I don't keep any food items in my apartment. All meals are eaten out. Sometimes I head back to Harlem and eat at El Barrio Restaurant. Like tonight. Other times I make a stop midway on the subway or i'll hang near Union Square. Some nights I catch a movie, some nights I hit an open mic, some nights I read to my blind woman, some nights I read in my head to myself, some nights I try and write an email that's over due.
Hobby: Having good conversation. Trying to think of jokes.
His desert-island discs
Rilo Kiley: Execution of All Things, Takeoffs and Landings, More Adventurous
Beatles: Abbey Road
Weezer: Blue Album
Elliot Smith: XO
Dave Brubeck: Greatest Hits
Obsolete item he can't part with: my fencing equipment. it's obsolete to me, because i don't fence. but i can't quite seem to give it away.
Workout routine: I walk everywhere.
Always in fridge: Kedem grape juice and Tropicana orange juice.
Favorite clothing item: My puma hat. It's worn out now. Can't wear it anymore.
Household chore he's fastidious about: Throwing out old things.
Favorite award: 2nd place for boomilever, state finals for NYS Science Olympiad
Next gadget: iPod video.
Next big purchase: An orange juicer.
