Looking for the Monarch (August 31 2005)

Megan M and I spend several days in the Ithaca outback scouring branches, trees, leaves, and even moss pathces for the ever elusive monarch butterfly in it's larval stage...alas, no larva. We did however capture pictures of a millipede (maybe a centipede?) and a cricket (or possibly a grasshopper?).

I've got a place all to my own now in college town Ithaca...feel free to come and visit, the left side of my bed is always open.

NYC (August 19 2005)

Ryan, Morgan and myself drove down to the city to visit Katie, Liz, Sarah, Dan, Manoj, John, and Jessie. We hit up the UCB, some restaurant Leonardo DiCaprio ate at the week before, the new MOMA, and the movie Grizzly Man (see it if you haven't). On the way home we hit up Krispy Kreme hard core!

Sexico (August 8 2005)

In the land of plenty, there was more than enough. Joal, Lev, Joe, and myself took a vacation in the cultured, historic, and rich land that is Mexico City. We toured the historic center of the city and by chance found two lovely Mexican girls to guide us through the labyrinth of small cobbled roads and translate menus. Food vendors lined the streets by day and served everything from fresh squeezed orange juice to rotisarie chicken to tacos. It's all good if you don't care to question sanitary conditions. I'm happy to report noone got violently ill and Joe mysteriously received his cocoa beans via an odd taxi ride. The party didn't stop there. Mexico City wasn't enough for this dynamic squad of awkward americans...we headed down to Acapulco, the self proclaimed capital of Sex, Drugs, and House. Yes, House...ooh and wicked long water slides.

100 Miles of Wilderness with Nothing Around but a Burger Shop and French Canadian High School Girls Everywhere (Ausust 1 2005)

Ryan, Lev, Joal, and myself treked through the wildes of Maine on the AT in search of solitude, love, good views, blisters, and damp clothing. I think we acheived most of them. The AT is a special place, one where the rest of the world is but a distant memory. All that matters is when your next meal is and if the trail ahead is steep. After an intense first day of hiking Lev and Joal decided they rather find solitude and love elsewhere...they hitchiked off the trail, morning of day three. Ryan and I were left to finish the job...and we didn't. The AT beat us too. Originally, 100 miles was our goal in five days. After a slow first day though, this became unrealistic. We ended up cutting off the last 20 miles, which sadly, included Mt. Katadin...we'll leave that for another day.
