100 Miles of Wilderness with Nothing Around but a Burger Shop and French Canadian High School Girls Everywhere (Ausust 1 2005)
Ryan, Lev, Joal, and myself treked through the wildes of Maine on the AT in search of solitude, love, good views, blisters, and damp clothing. I think we acheived most of them. The AT is a special place, one where the rest of the world is but a distant memory. All that matters is when your next meal is and if the trail ahead is steep. After an intense first day of hiking Lev and Joal decided they rather find solitude and love elsewhere...they hitchiked off the trail, morning of day three. Ryan and I were left to finish the job...and we didn't. The AT beat us too. Originally, 100 miles was our goal in five days. After a slow first day though, this became unrealistic. We ended up cutting off the last 20 miles, which sadly, included Mt. Katadin...we'll leave that for another day.
